The original Ancanar project was never completed, yet those involved with the production never forgot the impact it had on their lives, or the vocal fanbase that supported them. In 2017, seventeen years after cameras rolled, the cast (Gregory Lee Kenyon, Jamie Alexander & Ralph Lister) and co-creators (Sam Balcomb & Raiya Corsiglia) gathered together in Los Angeles for a reunion photo shoot to celebrate those memories.

It was a chance to re-envision the characters of Ancanar, Laliel, Curugon and Finlomë with all the experience everyone had accumulated since 2000, and visualize them in a way that hadn’t been possible before. Sam asked costume designer Andrea Wakely, of Twin Roses Designs, to create all-new outfits — vast improvements over the rentals and thrift store finds from long ago. These new costumes were joined by the original swords and armor hand-forged by Joe Piela, of The Lonely Mountain Forge. Sam photographed the cast, then finished the images at his company Rainfall Films, which sponsored the shoot.

The result is a mix of old and new, a celebration of the past while looking ahead to the future.
